SCOTTISH WOMEN'S RURAL INSTITUTES
The Lhanbryde branch of SWRI was founded by 27 ladies in 1924 and has continued, with only a break during World War II, until the present day. At it's peak in 1949 the membership was 66, sadly this number has dwindled over the years.
The core values of SWRI have remained constant throughout the years and are still relevent today, they are:-
+ Encourage Home Skills
+ Consider family welfare and citizenship
+ Preserve the traditions of rural Scotland
+ Enhance awareness of Scotland's rural heritage
+ Work for international co-operation and understanding amongst women
+ Encourage home & small industries, both individual & co-operative
Motto:- If you know a good thing - pass it on!
We now meet on the second Wednesday of each month, September to May inclusive, in The Ian Baxter Room of Lhanbryde Community Hall at 7.30pm.
